Introduction: When women are faced with the experience of premature birth, they find themselves in an unexpected situation, and their stress levels are inversely proportional to their gestational age. Objective: To describe the application of the Integrative Community Therapy circle with mothers of hospitalized preterm babies as a Mental Health Extension activity. Materials and Methods: This was an interventional study, an experience report, developed during the Mental Health Nursing course by a teacher and four students, which took place in the kangaroo mother maternity ward of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital in Sobral, Ceará. The actions took place with three puerperal women admitted to the mother kangaroo maternity ward who agreed to take part in the Integrative Community Therapy (ICT) circle. The research was carried out based on the systematization of the 5 stages proposed by Barreto: welcoming, choice of theme, contextualization, problematization, aggregation rituals and positive connotation. Results and discussion: In this action, it was possible to capture the mothers' fear, insecurity and powerlessness in relation to the situation of hospitalization in the context of prematurity. This strategy reached its therapeutic potential according to the mothers' reports, as the use of this care methodology gave value to their subjectivity. The intervention group's learning was significant, contributing to their mental health performance. Conclusions: There was a clear need to develop CIT to control maternal anxiety, centered on observing the subjective needs and valuing the psychosocial aspects of women in situations of prematurity.
